Stick To Your Healthy Eating Resolutions This Year

It's the time of year when most of us make tons of resolutions, many of them to eat healthier or lose weight. Sound familiar? But the real dilemma is executing those resolutions.  Here are some tips to help you stay on track with keeping healthy for 2011:

  •     Take baby steps.  Instead of changing everything you do overnight make little changes to your menu in order to create a healthier diet over time.  Add a few vegetables to recipes you already prepare. Your family won't balk if they are eating recipes they know and love. You can grate carrots into meat loaf, add parsnips to mashed potatoes, add dried fruit to hot cereals or throw a few almonds or walnuts into a salad
  •     Be realistic.  Rather than resolving to losing 20 pounds by Easter, why not resolve to walk 10 minutes per day or eat 200 calories less each day? Both will lead to a healthier lifestyle and help with weight loss.
  •     Drink water.  Avoid soda and other sugar-laden drinks which add lots of useless calories. Drinking water also helps curb hunger.
  •     Make a shopping list.  Going to the grocery store without a list can lead to impulse buying, which never is a good thing.
  •     Read labels.  You will be surprised where useless calories and fat lurk. Check sodium levels, fat content, calories per serving and how many servings are in the can or package.
  •     Find healthier versions of your favorite desserts.  Rather than trying to totally avoid desserts, find healthier substitutes. Of course at Freeziac we suggest frozen yogurt, a low-fat option that can be topped with fresh fruit making a healthy choice to satisfy a sweet tooth.

Ultimately, improving your eating and lifestyle habits doesn’t have to mean radical change. Shedding those extra pounds that crept up during the fall and early winter holidays and keeping your New Year resolutions don't have to be so daunting. And by the time next January rolls around, you may not even need to make such resolutions in the first place.

Is Frozen Yogurt Healthy? Here's The Scoop.

What are the health benefits of frozen yogurt?

One major health benefit of all natural frozen yogurts is the probiotic content. Frozen yogurt that contains live bacterial cultures promotes better digestion. According to the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM), a division of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), there is some evidence that specific probiotics are helpful for urinary tract infections, irritable bowel syndrome, may reduce the recurrence of bladder cancer and prevent and manage atopic dermatitis (eczema) in children. Probiotic content is good bacteria that your body needs that can boost the immune system, enhance digestion and is even believed to lower cholesterol levels. At Freeziac we use yogurt which maintains active live cultures and probiotics to make healthy frozen yogurt.

In addition to probiotic content, another health benefit of frozen yogurt is the amount of lactose found in frozen yogurt appears to be more digestible than the lactose in milk. For people who are lactose intolerant, this is particularly important. Frozen yogurt contains enzymes that assist in breaking down dairy, allowing many people with lactose intolerance to enjoy frozen yogurt with little or no ill effects.

Frozen yogurt is recommended by many dieticians as a good way to get the newly-increased daily allowance of dairy products. It's a good natural source of protein and calcium. We invite you to come Freeziac and taste the difference of a healthier frozen treat!
